history
In ancient times, the city called Caput Silicis was located on a lagoon with a connection to the Adriatic Sea. Caput Silicis means something like "At the end of Via Silicis", whereas "Silicis" means gravel. It was a port city that was important for trade with the city , an ancient city of the Etruscans, and was located at the end of the Via Selice, a Roman road that crosses with the Via Emilia . The first known document, in which the city is referred to as portus de capite selcis , dates from 1084 AD. At that time, the city belonged to Imola , who carried out trade with Venice through the port .
In the 14th century Conselice came to the Papal States , who extended it like a fortress. As early as 1395 it fell to the Estonians from Ferrara . In 1598 it came back to the Papal States until it joined the new Kingdom of Italy after a referendum in 1859.
