Heldt is a German television series that has been broadcast on Second German Television since January 24, 2013 . The series will be discontinued after the 8th season.

action

As Bochum's detective inspector, Nikolas Heldt has a special way of solving his cases, although disciplinary proceedings are of little interest to him. He has a casual work ethic and constantly eats sweets. Heldt messes with almost every one of his colleagues who only investigate through the official channels; if need be, he even commits burglaries. He tries to help people who are in need and puts himself in danger for them.

With the extremely correct superior, Chief Inspector Detlef Grün and Public Prosecutor Ellen Bannenberg, who starts work at the Bochum Public Prosecutor's Office at the beginning of season 1, there are always conflicts regarding the procedures. Heldt's past plays a role again and again: He watched the murder of his parents and is determined to find the mastermind behind this act.

Season 1–3

Nikolas Heldt and his colleagues get a new colleague at the beginning: Public Prosecutor Ellen Bannenberg. The team solves multiple cases and gets on better and better over time. After Heldt gets a clue about his parents' murderer in season 3, he flies to Mallorca for six months. But he lets the long-awaited date with Ellen Bannenberg slip. The season ends with Ellen receiving a note from Heldt's best friend Carlo explaining the reasons for his actions. She tears up the note.

Season 4

Heldt comes as a complete surprise to Bochum after his sudden disappearance to Mallorca. After initial difficulties with his colleagues, they form a team again. Ellen is now with her ex-husband Stephan. But this dies in the ninth episode. At the end of the season, after being kidnapped, Heldt learns who is responsible for his parents' deaths. The season ends with Nikolas Heldt finding out from Carlo that the murderer is also his biological father.

Season 5

Ellen Bannenberg is considering taking a new job as a senior public prosecutor in Passau because she is not getting anywhere professionally. Daughter Emily rebels because she does not want to leave her home in Bochum. Heldt finds a new friend in the profiler Julia Tietz, with whom he occasionally solves cases. However, she breaks up because she realizes that he's not over Ellen yet. At the end of the season, Carlo's restaurant explodes and nobody knows if he's still alive.

Season 6

Nikolas Heldt has been trying to find the missing Carlo for three months now. He succeeds at the end of the first episode. Carlo then drives off with his boat Nikolas and is no longer part of the series from then on. At a teamwork seminar that Nikolas Heldt and Ellen Bannenberg have to attend because they missed a group of people being smuggled by a mole, the two get closer. However, they keep their relationship a secret for the time being. The season ends with Emily finding out the two are together.

Episode list

The series reached an average of 3.87 million viewers in the first season and thus had a market share of 13.25%, so the ratings are comparable to the series Notruf Hafenkante , which usually runs on this slot instead of Heldt . The young audience measured 0.54 million viewers (5.4% market share).

The second season again reached 3.87 million viewers, which corresponded to a market share of 13.5%, and 0.51 million young viewers (5.3% market share).

With the beginning of the third season, the broadcast of Heldt was postponed to Wednesday evening.

background

The shooting takes place in Bochum and Cologne . While most of the interior shots are produced in Sony Pictures' television studios in Cologne, locations in Bochum provide motifs for scenes from urban life in the Ruhr area . The latter is increasingly the case for the local bond with Bochum in the 2nd and 4th season. Shooting took place in the city center, but also on the campus of the Ruhr University Bochum in the Querenburg district and at the Bochum observatory in the Sundern district.

In some episodes, small guest appearances by Bochum's local color can be seen. For example, the nationwide known police officers Toto & Harry make an arrest or Ruhrpott villain Claude-Oliver Rudolph is up to mischief. Actors associated with Bochum such as Ralf Richter , Ingo Naujoks , Johanna Gastdorf and Sebastian Stielke play episode roles. The bar owner of the regular pub was played by Felix Vörtler , a face not only known to the Bochum audience from television and the stage of the Bochum theater .

After the first season, twelve more scripts were commissioned. The shooting for this second season took place in the period from August to November 2013, including in Bochum, but also in Bergisch Gladbach and in Cologne film studios. It was broadcast on ZDF in spring 2014.

On June 11, 2014, ZDF announced the production of 15 more episodes in the form of a third season (shooting from June 5 to December 16, 2014). At the end of April 2016, the start of filming was announced for a fifth season consisting of 18 episodes, which was broadcast from autumn 2017. A sixth season with 15 episodes aired in spring 2018. The production of a 7th season with 12 episodes began on August 1, 2018, its broadcasting began on September 25, 2019. Production of the 8th season began in summer 2019 and is expected to be broadcast from October 2020. In March 2020, ZDF announced that the series will end with the 8th season.

reception

On the occasion of the premiere of the first season, Christian Buß criticized the Spiegel for the fact that Heldt was just a copy of successful private television series. The title hero embodies “what you think of a young, cool investigator in the second place” and shows only “dull quackery”. Lea Streisand criticized in the taz that the ZDF tries to generate audience ratings with sexual harassment at work and questionable gender images, even if the opening episode is "fast and funny, [with] a [em] good pace and nice [n] dialogues [ n] “wait. However, the format would ultimately be on the level of RTL II .

Michael Hanfeld , on the other hand, praised the television series in the Frankfurt Allgemeine Zeitung as a "lively, not too demanding early evening series, made by and with professionals and experienced directors and scripts, which, however, represents a quantum leap for the cozy ZDF". Heldt , which was created as part of the opening of the ZDF program to the young target group, succeeded in this "shift of emphasis in a very respectable way". Sidney Schering moved in Quotenmeter.de a mixed conclusion. Heldt is "an interchangeable protagonist who can be found in the genre like a dime a dozen". However, the cast harmonizes and convinces with a "fixed comedic timing". The ZDF succeeded in producing "not as old-fashioned and pseudo-hip as most of the ARD's" cheerful to deadly "series designed according to scheme F," but the ZDF is capable of much more original concepts ".
