Kai Schumann (born July 28, 1976 in Dresden ) is a German actor .

Life

Kai Schumann comes from the German Democratic Republic . His mother was a citizen of the GDR. His father, whom Schumann never met, came from Syria and was a student in the GDR. Kai Schumann spent his childhood in Zwoschwitz near Plauen in Vogtland . He first attended the Salzmann School in Schnepfenthal in Thuringia , later he went to the Adolph-Diesterweg-Gymnasium in Plauen. He also made his first experiences as an actor at the Salzmann School, where, at the suggestion of his German teacher, he worked in the school's theater group. At the age of 15 he played the role of village judge Adam in Der zerbrochne Krug as the youngest actor in a school performance at the Ekhof Theater in Gotha .

Schumann graduated from a boarding school in Thuringia and then studied from 1995 at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts in Berlin . His fellow students included Nina Hoss , Fritzi Haberlandt , Devid Striesow and Mark Waschke . He then went on a European tour with Robert Wilson's Saints and Singing from 1997 to 1999 . In the seasons 1999/2000 and 2000/01 he was engaged at the Landestheater Tübingen . From 2001 to 2005 he was a member of the ensemble at the Stuttgart State Theater , where he worked with, among others, Volker Lösch , Stephan Kimmig , Hans Neuenfels and René Pollesch . From 2005 to 2007 he was then in the ensemble of the Deutsches Schauspielhaus .

He received his first film role in 1999 from Rosa von Praunheim for the film Der Einstein des Sex . He made his breakthrough as a television actor in 2008 with the series Doctor's Diary , in which he played the role of senior physician and successful gynecologist Dr. Mehdi Kaan could be seen. From 2009 to 2013 he played at the Leipzig scene throughout the role of coroner Dr. Johannes Reichau. In the ZDF Schumann was repeatedly with lead roles in TV movies to see. In the television film Emilie Richards - Sehnsucht nach Sandy Bay (2011) he played the attractive doctor Dr. Sam Long. In 2012, he took on the role of the young groom Lukas Berger, who was still married to another woman, in the ZDF television series Kreuzfahrt ins Glück . ZDF also cast Schumann in the African drama Die Löwin (2012), where he played the role of the South African lion-keeper Daniel, a childhood friend of the main female character. Since 2013 he can be seen in the ZDF television series Heldt as Detective Inspector Nikolas Heldt, who is investigating the prosecutor in Bochum in collaboration with Janine Kunze .

As part of the 19th season of the documentary history of Central Germany , produced by MDR , Schumann played the main character in the episode Karl Marx - Public Enemy No. 1, which first aired in August 2017 .

Kai Schumann practices fencing , judo , karate and plays the tuba . Schumann is the father of one son. Since separating from his wife in 2010, he lived in Berlin for some time . He was in a relationship with Susan Hoecke until 2013 . Hamburg is now his permanent residence. Schumann is a member of the Federal Drama Association .
