Stephan Kimmig
Stephan Kimmig (born March 1, 1959 in Stuttgart ) is a German theater director .
Life
Kimmig studied acting at the New Munich Drama School from 1981 to 1984 . After graduating, he assisted at the Schillertheater Berlin. From 1988 to 1996 he directed in Belgium and the Netherlands. In 1991 Friedrich Schirmer, the director of the Freiburg Municipal Theaters , engaged him for the first time in Germany. From 1996 to 1998 he was in-house director at the Heidelberg Theater . From 1998 to 2000 he followed the artistic director Friedrich Schirmer as in-house director at the Staatstheater Stuttgart . He has directed at the Deutsches Theater Berlin , the Schauspiel Frankfurt , the Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg, the Thalia Theater Hamburg, the Bavarian State Opera Munich, the Münchner Kammerspiele and the Burgtheater Vienna.
Kimmig received numerous awards. In 2002, 2003, 2008 and 2010 he was invited to the Berlin Theatertreffen . In 2004 he received the Vienna Theater Prize NESTROY . In 2007 he was awarded the Rolf Mares Prize . In 2007 and 2011 he received the German Theater Prize DER FAUST . In 2008 he was awarded the 3sat innovation prize together with his wife and set designer Katja Haß .
Kimmig has been in-house director at the Deutsches Theater Berlin since 2009. He is a member of the German Academy of Performing Arts .
