Michael "Schotti" Schottenberg (born July 10, 1952 in Vienna ) is an Austrian actor , director , theater director and author .

biography

Schottenberg received his training as an actor from 1971 to 1974 at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg . From then on he worked in numerous roles at various theaters in Vienna and Berlin . From 1978 he also worked as a director .

In addition, Schottenberg worked both as an actor and as a director in various cinema and television films.

In 1984 he founded his own theater, Theater im Kopf , with which he tried to create productions that were very close to the audience. In a specially built theater tent in front of the Votive Church in Vienna , he reached more than 20,000 spectators each with performances of Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew (1987) and Ibsen's Peer Gynt (1988).

In autumn 2005 he took over the artistic direction of the Vienna Volkstheater . In June 2015 he declared that he wanted to retire from the industry not only as a director from the Vienna Volkstheater, but also as an actor, theater and film director. In 2016 he staged the Nestroy posse Das Mädl aus der Vorstadt at the Theater in der Josefstadt .

Since then, Schottenberg has worked as a travel writer for Amalthea Verlag . He undertakes numerous readings and lectures. In February 2019, Schottenberg took part in the celebrity millionaire show for the campaign Licht ins Dunkel .

In 2019 he took part - together with Cornelia Kreuter - in the ORF dance show Dancing Stars . The couple made it to the finals, where they finished second. In 2020 he was one of the last guests at Wir sind Kaiser .

Schottenberg was married to Maria Bill until 2011 and the couple have a son.
