At the beginning of the 19th century there was a bakery with a press house and vineyards on the site of today's metropolis . This property was acquired in 1828 by Quirin Maierhofer, a master baker from Würzburg, Bought. The attached stables were converted into an 8 × 20 meter hall before 1860, the "Glass Salon" and today's bar area. At first, balls, suckling pig meals and even rings of honor were held here. In 1858 the master baker Georg Klein married the daughter of the owner and in 1868 took over the business. Klein enlarged the establishment in 1872 with a garden salon (today Metropoldi), which was formerly called the Hernalser Stadttheater. In 1874 a second glass salon was built on the site of today's stage area. At the turn of the century the "Pawlatschenbühne" was founded in the garden, which today is probably the last stage original of this time in a Viennese suburb. At this time, the Klein establishment also reached its peak, Hernals was a popular entertainment district in Vienna. In the 1960s and 1970s the establishment was operated under the name Hernalser Amusement Center (HVZ). A gentle revitalization took place in 1980, since then it has been run as the Metropol or Wiener Metropol .

Stages

The Wiener Metropol has three stages. The main stage with the large hall has a capacity of 700 standing or 550 seats. The spectrum ranges from international and national events, from musicals to cabaret to concerts. In 1998 the main stage hall was modernized. A special feature is the stage that is open on three sides.

The Metropoldi (former Hernals City Theater) has around 100 seats and is usually used for cabaret events , cabaret or theater . The hall is also rented out for private events.

The Pawlatschen stage is an open-air stage that is used in summer.
