The Ateliertheater was a chamber theater in Vienna's 7th district of Neubau , which played between 1932 and 2012 and was reopened in 2013 as "Ateliertheater reloaded".

history

The Ateliertheater was founded in 1932 on Vienna's Naschmarkt . Initially it traded under the name Literatur am Naschmarkt , later it was called Kaleidoskop .

Veit Relin took over the theater in 1960 and named it Ateliertheater . As early as 1967, Peter Janisch , who shaped the company in his almost 40 years of activity, followed the Relin management team . For example, he played plays by Witold Gombrowicz , Franz Xaver Kroetz and Wolfgang Bauer , and hired directors such as Achim Benning and the actress Elisabeth Orth . In 2005 Manfred Tscherne took over the management of the theater.

The location on Naschmarkt finally had to be abandoned due to the construction of an underground car park. Afterwards, the studio theater was located on Lerchenfelder Straße, now it is in the former star cinema in Burggasse. This completely renovated house has a faithfully reconstructed portal from the 1950s.

Since a theater reform in Vienna in 2005, the theater has had to make do with lower funding. A jury had classified the theater as “not worthy of funding”, but due to a previous costly renovation and violent protests from the population, the responsible city councilor for culture, Andreas Mailath-Pokorny, disregarded the jury's judgment and continued to subsidize the theater. However, the funding amount was cut by 50 percent. In 2012 the director Manfred Tscherne retired and the theater had to give up due to the financial situation.

On March 1, 2013, the theater was reopened as "Ateliertheater reloaded" under the new management of Nina Gabriel and Ludwig Drahosch .

At the beginning of 2016, Aleksandra Andrejewna took over the management of the studio theater. She has been running the theater together with Talita Simek since 2018 .

The studio theater is now used not only for theater performances. The auditorium offers space for around 100 guests.

Productions

The theater's repertoire presented classics by Shakespeare , Schiller , Grillparzer , Nestroy and Schnitzler , as well as contemporaries such as Mitterer and Turrini . The current conception of the “Ateliertheater reloaded” includes theater performances, concerts, exhibitions, literature, children's theater and a film club. Well-known personalities who have appeared in this theater since it reopened in 2013 include Johanna Beisteiner , Gerti Drassl , Jason Cloud , Mercedes Echerer , Hubert Kramar and Valérie Sajdik .
