Valérie Sajdik (Tulln 2008)

Valérie Sajdik (born April 2, 1978 in Vienna ) is an Austrian pop singer , chanteuse (stage name Valerie ) and actress . Her music style combines elements from pop , chanson and jazz .

Youth and education

Valérie spent most of her childhood in Moscow . She attended a French school there and grew up in a multilingual environment. Today she speaks German, French, Russian and English. When the Soviet Union fell apart in 1991 , her family returned to Vienna, where Valérie attended a semi-boarding school. She went to Penn State High in the United States for a semester and lived with an American host family, where she was inspired to sing. Already at the age of 14 Valerie was regularly on stage and already had her first record deal. The singer studied jazz singing at the Vienna Conservatory .

Artistic career

Since her first band ( c-bra , 1998) Valerie has been featured in the Austrian charts again and again. In 2001 she played in the play The Village on the Border and interpreted songs from Naked Lunch .

Numerous music projects with producers in Austria, Germany and France shaped her artistic career. Her humorous, poetic and thoughtful texts - which she writes in exchange and in collaboration with a wide variety of authors - are often socially critical in a playful way. With the electronic musician Klaus Waldeck she created the music project saint privat with the albums "Riviera" (2004) and "Superflu" (2006). In 2005 saint was honored privately with the Amadeus Austrian Music Award as “Newcomer of the Year” . Under her name, as Valerie , she released her first solo single "Mädchen sind doof " in 2007 , which entered the Austrian charts at number 13. In 2008 she won an Amadeus Austrian Music Award for the second time with “Mädchen” in the “National Single of the Year” category. With “Regen” from her album “Picnick” (2007, producer David Bronner) she climbed into the top ten of the Austrian charts and was in the charts for a total of 29 weeks.

In February 2008 Sajdik opened the “Valeries Salon” artists' meeting in the Fledermaus Cabaret in downtown Vienna , where she regularly sang with both established and young artists. After a break due to the production of their album “Ich Bin Du Bist”, “Valeries Salon” is now taking place on the summer stage at Rossauer Lände in the 9th district . In early April 2009 she released the single "Es geht nicht". The album "Ich Bin Du Bist" was released on March 19, 2010.

In June 2010 the British pianist and band leader Jools Holland gave three concerts in Austria. After Valerie had sung “La vie en rose” with him in Bad Ischl , he invited her to go on tour with him. Valerie formed the opening act in a trio with Klemens Bittmann and David Blabensteiner and also presented a joint song with Holland. The tour ended with a double concert in the Wiener Reigen on June 8th, where Valerie played the first part of the evening with her live band and the songs from her album “Ich Bin Du Bist”. She had another guest appearance at a concert evening in Holland at Porgy & Bess in Vienna in September 2011. In the same month, his album “Jools Holland & Friends” was released, in which she participated with the song “Where love falls (Wheel of Fortune)” . At the beginning of 2012 she took part in “ Austria rocks the Song Contest ” with “Comme ça” , the Austrian preliminary decision for participation in the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest .

Valerie Sajdik released her album 'Les Nuits Blanches' with her trio Clemens Wenger (piano, Wurli piano, accordion), Raphael Preuschl (double bass, cello, ukulele bass) and Samuel Devauchelle (drums, percussion, Farfisa keyboard) on 8 November 2013. Les Nuits Blanches (“The White Nights”) - a musical journey through Valerie's sleepless nights - was created in Vienna and France in 2012 and 2013 with songs that Valerie had collected over 10 years: Valerie processed childhood memories from Russia, penetrated as Agent of the night immersed herself in Freudian dreams of her lover, danced under the starry sky of Paris and faced mundane things like jet lag and creative processes in the recording studio. And sometimes she just dreams of being able to sleep, even if the world is going to end in the meantime. In several languages - French, English, Russian, German - Valerie sang the soundtrack of her sleepy nights. She dedicated these very personal, intimate jazz chansons - embedded in a nocturne world of sound - to all sleepless people and frequent travelers.

In addition to her work as a musician, Sajdik can often be seen as a moderator of international events at home and abroad.
