Austria rocks the Song Contest was the title of the Austrian preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 in Baku ( Azerbaijan ). The show was broadcast live on ORF one on February 24, 2012 . In a telephone vote by the public, the Trackshittaz with Woki with deim Popo were identified as Austrian participants in the ESC. By sending led Mirjam Vistula Brown , Robert Kratky and Andi Knoll .
procedure
In contrast to Guten Morgen Düsseldorf , the preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 , when Nadine Beiler was chosen to participate in the ESC, the process was accelerated somewhat in 2012. The preliminary round, in which a jury of experts and the audience selected ten finalists from a pool of candidates, was canceled. In 2012, all candidates were initially presented on Ö3 . The radio station, or a jury of experts, then pre-selected 10 candidates. These competed against each other in the live show on February 24, 2012.
Candidates
- 3punkt5 : moment
- James Cottriall : Stand Up
- Dela Dap : Don't Turn Around
- Krautschädl : collapsing risk
- Mary Broadcast Band : How Can You Ask Me
- Papermoon : Father, Father, Mon Père
- Norbert Schneider : Medicate My Blues Away
- Trackshittaz : Woki with deim Popo
- Valérie Sajdik : Comme ça
- Conchita Wurst : That's What I Am
Of these candidates, the Mary Broadcast Band made it into the top 30 last year (2011), while the dialect band Trackshittaz failed - also in 2011 - in the finals only narrowly to Nadine Beiler.
Near disqualification
Originally the band Dela Dap should have entered the preliminary round with the song Crazy Swing on February 24, 2012, but on January 27, 2012 a rumor circulated that the band should have released the said song before September 1, 2011. However, according to the statutes of the ESC, this is illegal as each song may only be played for the first time after September 1st of the previous year. After a detailed examination of the rumor for truthfulness by the radio station Ö3, those responsible had to confirm this rumor as correct and to disqualify Dela Dap from the preliminary decision on January 29, 2012 for the time being. Accordingly, the band had already played the song as part of a small concert on August 19, 2011 in Odessa , Ukraine , as a clip on YouTube shows , among other things . After a week of considering how to proceed, Dela Dap got a second chance on February 3, 2012 - with the song Don't Turn Around .
