The Austrian Broadcasting Corporation (ORF) organized as last year a preliminary decision under the name Euro Vision Song Contest - Who sings for Austria? . Unlike last year, there was only one broadcast in which ten performers compete against each other with a song. The Austrian contribution to the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 was sought in a total of two decision-making rounds. The program was produced in the ORF studios of the Austrian capital Vienna and moderated by the moderator duo Andi Knoll and Alice Tumler , both of whom were directly involved in last year's ESC in Vienna. Attendees

First round

In the first round, all ten candidates presented their song. Each jury member awarded up to ten points after each appearance. After all candidates have been evaluated, a ranking list was created. The interpreter with the most jury points received ten points. The one with the fewest jury votes received two points in the overall ranking (due to the tie between Zoe and Sankil Jones, seven jury points were awarded twice).

The audience vote was based on the same principle: the interpreter who was able to collect the most audience votes received ten points and the interpreter with the least one point.

After the audience vote, the points from the jury and audience votes were added and the two first-placed performers, Zoe and Elly V, moved into the final round. If there had been a tie between two performers, the number of audience votes would have decided.

The ten participants in the first round were:

Who sings for Austria? - The decision

The winner of the Austrian preliminary decision: Zoë Straub

In the final round, Zoe and Elly V, the two finalists, presented their song a second time. Only the audience decided here. ZOË received the most votes, which is why she is allowed to travel to Stockholm for the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest.

In the finale, Conchita Wurst performed a new version of her song That's What I Am , which she sang in the Austrian preliminary round of Austria rocks the song contest in 2012 .

Wildcard

Elly V

The tenth place for the show was awarded by Facebook fans, the candidate with the most likes should also take part in the preliminary round. Local artists and groups were able to present themselves on Facebook until the end of 2015. These became Laura Kamhuber, Ola Egbowon, AzRaH, Sara Koell and David Siedl feat. Madelene & Mc Vio selected for choice by Facebook users. This resulted in irregularities in the form of a sudden disproportionate increase and an equally sudden drop in likes of incomprehensible origin. Obviously manipulated likes were removed from the rating. As the tenth candidate, the singer Azrah was finally announced on January 15, 2016.
