Peter Turrini (born September 26, 1944 in Sankt Margarethen im Lavanttal ) is an Austrian writer . He is known for his socially critical and, especially in his early works, provocative folk plays .

biography

Peter Turrini is the son of the Italian cabinet maker Ernesto Turrini and the Styrian domestic worker Else Turrini, née Reßler. He grew up in Maria Saal in Carinthia . Through the Tonhof of the singer Maja Weis-Ostborn and the composer Gerhard Lampersberg he came into contact with representatives of the Viennese avant-garde early on . From 1963 to 1971 he worked in various professions, including as a magazine writer at Huber-Trikot, as a copywriter for an American agency, as a hotel secretary in Bibione , and as an unskilled worker in Neuwied am Rhein . In 1967/68 he lived in Rhodes . He has lived as a freelance writer since 1971. In 2005 he was elected a corresponding member of the German Academy for Language and Poetry .

His current place of residence is Kleinriedenthal near Retz . He writes plays, scripts, poems, essays and speeches. His works have been translated into many languages ​​and his plays are performed worldwide.

Peter Turrini was best known for Rozznjogd (1971), Sauschlachten (1972) and the television series Alpensaga (1974–1979). In his first two works he used dialect, but in the minor performers he used an artful “high” language. Turrini took part in innumerable author readings; so also often on the Left Word , an author reading with political accents, which was carried out as part of the annual Volksstimmefest . Together with Helmut Qualtinger and H. C. Artmann , he went on a reading tour of several weeks at American universities. Peter Turrini is a member of the Graz Authors' Assembly . In the run-up to the occupation of the Hainburger Au in 1984, Turrini was one of the participants in the press conference of the animals and appeared as a " fire-bellied toad ".

In 2005 he was seen in the role of a conductor in the crime scene The Sleeping Beauty .

To date there have been thirty-six plays, three opera libretti, fifty-five book editions, fourteen screenplays, seventeen radio plays, as well as phonograph records and CDs.
