Johanna Doderer (born September 18, 1969 in Bregenz ) is an Austrian composer .

life and work

Johanna Doderer studied in Graz with Beat Furrer (composition) and later in Vienna with Klaus Peter Sattler (film and media composition) and Erich Urbanner (composition). She lives in Vienna.

Regular work with artists such as B. Patricia Kopatchinskaja, Sylvia Khittl-Muhr, Marlis Petersen, Ulf Schirmer and Edua Zadory.

Johanna Doderer's work ranges from chamber music to orchestral works to operas . She sees music theater as a particular focus of her future work.

On September 1, 2006, her second opera “STROM” was successfully premiered in the MuseumsQuartier Wien. On September 27th, 2006 she was represented with a new commissioned work (for accordion and strings 1, DWV 45) at the international festival Klangspuren in Schwaz (Austria). As part of the Haydn Year 2009, her 2nd piano trio was performed in Eisenstadt and London. In May 2009 Doderer's Salve Regina was premiered as part of the Paradisi Gloria concert series in Munich. In the same month, Doderer's Antonia Pozzi song cycle was premiered in Milan. Doderer's study of Zaha Hadid's painting Vision for Madrid was premiered as part of Linz's Capital of Culture 2009 .

In 2010, at the request of Federal President Heinz Fischer, Johanna Doderer's string quintet was played during the celebrations of his inauguration in the Austrian parliament. Another highlight in the 2010 concert calendar was the world premiere of Doderer's fourth opera The Shining River in the Neue Oper Erfurt / Germany at the end of October. The Glowing River deals with the fate of Ira Hayes , who achieved fame through Photo Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima but broke because of it.

Since 2010 the composer has dealt with the works of Ingeborg Bachmann and Paul Celan ; On April 27, 2011 the soprano Ildiko Raimondi ( Vienna State Opera ) premiered Doderer's song cycle sub rosa based on poems by Bachmann in the Josephskapelle of the Vienna Hofburg with a quartet of the Vienna Philharmonic .

On December 10, 2012, the Graz University of Art dedicated a personal exhibition to the composer.

On the occasion of the state ceremony for the centenary of the Republic of Austria in the Vienna State Opera on November 12, 2018, the 2nd movement of their 2nd symphony was played by the Vienna Philharmonic and conducted by Ádám Fischer .

Johanna Doderer was born on September 18, 1969 in Bregenz as the daughter of the subject teacher Wilhelm (Helmo) Gustav Erich Doderer (* 1918) and his wife Maria Sommerauer (* 1938). She is the sister of Imogena Doderer (born May 4, 1975), journalist at ORF and filmmaker, and the great niece of the writer Heimito von Doderer . In addition, Johanna Doderer is a great-great-granddaughter of the architect Carl Wilhelm von Doderer .
