Siren Opera Theater
The Sirene Operntheater (spelling: sirene Operntheater) emerged from the collaboration between Kristine Tornquist and Jury Everhartz in Vienna in 1998 and has been producing operas and music theater at changing and unusual venues since 2002, under this name. Since then, 71 musical theater works have premiered.
Game concept
The ensemble, which describes itself as an “opera caravan”, plays and invents operas as flexibly and risk-taking as it was common in the great days of opera and as it seems natural in other fields of art today: neither modernize notoriously old operas nor new operas Bring it stale on stage. The complexity of the audience is part of the concept. An invention of the siren opera theater are the short operas called operelles, of which several are usually shown in one evening. In addition, sirene has developed a number of opera series with up to 9 contiguous opera evenings.
“Play is the willingness to move under assumed rules, without anything bad happening if you break out of the rules, modify them in the middle, leave them, expand them ... On the contrary, play outside of sport is even enlivened by it. Strictly speaking, changing the rules is the only rule of the game that you absolutely have to adhere to in art. "
Cooperations and guest performances
The siren opera theater gave guest performances at the Tiroler Landestheater in Innsbruck, at the Music Biennale in Zagreb, at the Egyptian State Opera in Cairo, the Old Theater in Steyr, many locations in Lower Austria, Styria and Carinthia and was most recently invited to the Greek State Opera in Athens: CHODORKOWSKI played there in February 2020. In addition, sirene worked with major festivals such as Wien Modern , the Carinthian Summer , SOHO in Ottakring, exil.arte and many others. It works primarily with Austrian artists of all stripes and the most important ensembles there for new music such as PHACE, Playtypus, oenm, Ensemble Zeitfluss, Blackpage Orchestra, Reconsil, Ensemble ANAX, Ensemble Sonare, the Tyrolean ensemble for new music, but also other well-known ensembles like the Clemencic Consort and constantly cooperates with the major composers' associations IGNM , ÖKB and ÖGZM in Austria .
