MarieLuise is a two-hour chamber opera in 17 pictures by Kristine Tornquist (libretto, 2011) and Gernot Schedlberger (music, 2011/12).
action
The chamber opera is about the Siamese twin couple Marie and Luise. At the beginning of the action, both are in absolute harmony in their common body, but develop political ambition in the course of the action in order to bring their experiences together. As a result, however, they come more and more into opposition to one another, also because they are not familiar with the political mechanisms, power struggles and intrigues as lateral entrants. This self-inflicted alienation, skillfully promoted by the (mostly male) political competitors, culminates in the desire of both to no longer want to live in the same body, and they decide to have an operational separation carried out in order to better achieve their goals separately can. The treating physicians sense career opportunities and business, but also warn of the risks, especially before: both must be aware that - due to their physical capabilities - only one of the two will be able to survive. The operation succeeds, but unexpectedly Luise, who was predicted by the doctors to have a lower chance of survival, remains alive. Resignation follows her awakening and she regrets what happened.
