Oskar Aichinger

Oskar Aichinger (* 1956 in Vöcklabruck ) is an Austrian composer and pianist of modern creative jazz .

Live and act

Aichinger grew up in Attnang-Puchheim . In 1974 he began studying at the Montan University Leoben . From 1976 to 1983 he studied music at the Mozarteum and at the University of Salzburg . From 1979 he directed various ensembles; Between 1984 and 1986 he worked as a ballet coach at the Vienna State Opera . Since 1990 he turned to jazz and improvisation music ; first he played in the duo Steinaich Irrding with Hans Steiner and in the duo with Walter Malli . In addition, he worked as a pianist and conductor in Burkhard Stangl's Maxixe until 1996 . In 1996 he formed his own octet (with Max Nagl , Lorenz Raab , Joanna Lewis , Andrew Jeszek, Achim Tang and Patrice Héral, among others ). He also worked with Franz Koglmann , Oswald Eggers, Franz Koglmann and Paul Skrepek. In the Trio Blood he interprets music by Carla Bley , Annette Peacock , Paul Bley and Jimmy Giuffre with Michael Moore and John Edwards . For the Vienna Mozart Year 2006 he wrote the commissioned composition Suedama JIXX , which he performed with ensemble XX. century . In addition, he wrote music for the dance theater (Maja Slattery and Compagnie Smafu) and for the attensam quartet . In 2009 his chamber opera “Der stolen Taler” was premiered by the siren opera theater . Also for sirene he wrote his opera " Das Totenschiff " in 2018 .

Prizes and awards

Aichinger's solo album Cosmos Lutosławski , on which he improvised based on works by Witold Lutosławski , was awarded the Pasticcio Prize by Radio Ö1 in 2008 .
