René Clemencic

René Clemencic [ rə'ne kleː'məntʃitʃ ] (born February 27, 1928 in Vienna ) is an Austrian musicologist , conductor , composer , organist , harpsichord player and recorder player .

Life

René Clemencic's ancestors come from different areas of the former Austro-Hungarian Dual Monarchy, including Istria and Croatia. His father was a notary and spoke only Italian to him. He studied philosophy and musicology at the University of Vienna and at the Sorbonne . With the dissertation Being and Consciousness under Louis Lavelle , Clemencic obtained his doctorate at the University of Vienna.

Clemencic studied recorder and harpsichord in Vienna, the Netherlands and Berlin. He also studied musical forms , music theory and twelve-tone theory . In 1957 he founded the historical performance practice ensemble Clemencic Consort , with a variable line-up of 2 to 50 musicians.

René Clemencic supervised the Musica Antiqua cycle of the Wiener Musikverein from 1996 to 2005 . From autumn 2005 to June 2019 there was a separate Clemencic Consort cycle in the same building .

Works (selection)

René Clemencic composed a. a. the oratorios Kabbala (1992), Apocalypsis (1996), Reise nach Ninive (1999), the film music for Molière (1978), the dance pantomime Dragon Fight (1987) and the opera Der Berg (1993). For the siren opera theater he wrote the operelle Moonset (2007), the chamber operas Nachts unter der Steinernen Brücke (2009), Harun and Jafar (2011) and most recently the scenic oratorio and shadow play Gilgamesh (2015) based on the epic poem of the same name .
