Clemencic Consort

The Clemencic Consort is a Viennese ensemble for early music that dates back to a formation that first played together in 1957 and was officially founded in 1969.

The Clemencic Consort consists of an ensemble of artists of international origin under the direction of the Austrian René Clemencic . The line-up varies depending on the program to be performed, and there are various combinations of participants in the vocal and instrumental areas.

The singers and instrumentalists of the Clemencic Consort interpret music from the Middle Ages to the Baroque period with historical instruments and instruments based on historical models. Particular importance is attached to an interpretation that is as authentic as possible. The programs should give an impression of the epoch from which the music originates.

In 1966 René Clemencic founded the Musica Antiqua concert cycle in the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Vienna . He and his ensemble have made more than a hundred records and CDs. The interpretations have been awarded various international prizes such as the Edison , Grand Prix du Disque , Diapason d'or and the Prix Cecilia.

The Clemencic Consort plays z. B. the Carmina Burana with the melodies of the times of origin of this collection with instruments popular at the time. Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber , Johann Joseph Fux and Johann Heinrich Schmelzer are just as much part of the program as François Couperin and Jean-Philippe Rameau or John Dunstable , Guillaume Dufay and Johannes Ockeghem .

Another specialty of the Clemencic Consort are concert and staged performances of baroque operas.
