Franz Poche (born February 29, 1844 , † April 2, 1916 ) was an Austrian politician (Liberal Party) and businessman ( banker ).

life and career

Franz Poche was born on February 29, 1844 as the son of Kajetan Poche, also spelled Cajetan Poche. Together with his brother Mathias , he entered the banking and exchange business. From 1881 he was a member of the Linz City Council and from 1893 to 1894 he was Vice Mayor of the City of Linz. Then in 1894 he took over the mayor's office from Johann Evangelist Wimhölzel , himself a liberal, and held this position until 1900. This year he was also on the Linz municipal council for the last time. In the year before his resignation, he applied to the Kaiser in Vienna for permission to set up a medical faculty in Linz and promised an amount of 25,000 guilders as an "Kaiser anniversary donation" for the establishment. In addition, the City of Linz provided a five- yoke site in the immediate vicinity of the General Hospital of the City of Linz free of charge, provided that the medical faculty is to be built within the next five years. His request was then rejected because it was said in Vienna that Linz had no idea. In addition, Franz and Mathias Poche were full members of the Upper Austrian Museum Association for decades , with Franz Poche also being made an honorary member of the association on May 16, 1895. Furthermore, Poche was a knight of the Order of the Iron Crown III. Class . On April 2, 1916, Poche died at the age of 72. Until his death he was an honorary member of the Upper Austrian Museum Association. In 1941 a street in Linz was named after him. The Linz Prison is located on this street .
