Johann Evangelist Wimhölzel
Johann Evangelist Wimhölzel (born October 20, 1833 in St. Roman , † August 15, 1900 in Linz ) was an Austrian politician (Liberal Party) and businessman .
Life
After a three-year apprenticeship in Braunau am Inn and short stays in Linz and Vienna, Johann Evangelist Wimhölzel came to the Salzburg cloth and manufacturing business Wegschaider & Biebl, where he worked for the later Salzburg mayor Rudolf Biebl . In 1862 Wimhölzel opened his own shop in Linz. In 1878 he was elected President of the Upper Austrian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which he held until his death in August 1900. From April 18, 1885 to May 30, 1894 he was mayor of the Upper Austrian capital Linz. He was also an Imperial Councilor, a member of the Reichsrath and Landtag, President of the Mühlkreisbahn Society, honorary citizen of the cities of Linz and Urfahr , honorary president and honorary member of many humanitarian and scientific associations.
