The Friedrich-Schiller-Gymnasium is a high school in Eisenberg . It is the largest of five state schools in Eisenberg. It was named after Friedrich Schiller .

history

The grammar school has its origins in the 16th century. It was first mentioned as a Latin school in 1564 . Well-known students at the school were the lexicographer Immanuel Johann Gerhard Scheller and the philosopher Karl Christian Friedrich Krause . In 1874 the school was elevated to a full high school Christian high school and in 1877 the first school leaving examination took place under the supervision of the Prussian provincial school council Dr. Todt from Magdeburg .

From the humanistic Reformrealgymnasium in 1919, it was converted into a secondary school in 1937 and a polytechnic secondary school (POS) in 1959 . After the reunification of Germany , the school got its current name in 1991, whereby this is more related to the building in which the grammar school is located than to the history of the grammar school itself: The school building was only built in 1906 by Duke Ernst of Saxony -Altenburg opened after a two-year project and construction phase as the Herzog-Ernst-Schule , renamed the Friedrich-Schiller-Schule in 1918 and, with interruptions during the Second World War , was a girls' school until 1948 when the house was used as a military hospital .

From the comprehensive to the middle and polytechnic high school during the GDR era , the grammar school only moved into the building in 1991, which has had the same name since 1994: Friedrich Schiller grammar school.

From 1991 to 2006 Andreas Heller was director of the grammar school. After his successful candidacy for the office of district administrator of the Saale-Holzland district, Dieter Richter took over the position of director. After Doris Lindig took over the management as deputy headmistress, Steffen Riebel has been headmistress since February 24, 2014.

Architecture and school grounds

As a result of the realignment of the Thuringian school system at the beginning of the 1990s and the associated increasing number of students at the Schiller-Gymnasium, construction of a second building complex began in 1994, which was finally completed in 1998. The new building has a total of 30 classrooms, which are spread over three floors. The school canteen is now located in the basement. Externally, the new building is based on the look of the old building with a clinker brick facade. Both buildings are structurally separate, but connected by a glass corridor on the first floor. The schoolyard is enclosed in a U-shape by the old and new buildings.
