Austrian Music Theater Award 2017

The Austrian Music Theater Prize 2017 was the fifth award of the Austrian Music Theater Prize . The award ceremony took place on June 25, 2017 as part of a matinee at the Vienna Volksoper and was moderated by Christoph Wagner-Trenkwitz . On May 10, 2017 the winners for the life's work, the ORF III media award, the award for the best festival and the best choir were announced. In 2017 the Austrian Federal Chancellery took part for the first time and organized an off-theater award. The special prize for the best choir or the best orchestra is to be awarded alternately to one of the two ensembles. The prize was awarded in 17 categories in 2017. The Greek Passion at the Graz Opera received most of the awards ; the production was awarded in the categories of best overall production, best director (Lorenzo Fioroni) and best supporting actor (Wilfried Zelinka as Grigoris).
