Mathias Fischer-Dieskau

Mathias Fischer-Dieskau (* 1951 in Berlin ) is a German set designer and theater designer .

Life

The oldest son of the singer Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau (from his first marriage to the cellist Irmgard Poppen) wanted to become a set designer at the age of ten. During his studies he dealt with architecture, German studies and history. From 1972 to 1974 he was an assistant at the Theater Basel and at the Salzburg Festival . In the 1970s he founded one of the first independent opera groups in Berlin, the Young Ensemble for Music Theater , which brought rarely performed works of opera literature to the stage (e.g. Simplicius Simplicissimus by Karl Amadeus Hartmann ).

An intensive collaboration with the Berlin Grips Theater began in 1980 with the premiere of A Left Story . Among the greatest successes here are from today your name is Sara and the 1986 production Line 1 , which is still played in the original and has made guest appearances in 25 locations around the world. Fischer-Dieskau is also in charge of the filming of Line 1 by Reinhard Hauff . In the 1990s, a close collaboration developed with the Theater des Westens in Berlin and with Helmut Baumann and Jürg Burth. It emerged u. a. Revues on contemporary Berlin history: Ufa-Revue (1992), Blue Jeans (1994), Let's Pop . To date he has designed the sets for well over 100 productions in Germany and abroad. He works for opera, drama as well as musicals and shows.
