Equipment (theater)
The equipment is the entire visual design of a theater performance , which is not directly related to the leadership - in contrast to direction , dramaturgy or incidental music . When it comes to film, one speaks more of a production design .
The term is mainly used when the functions of set designer , lighting designer and costume designer coincide in one person. A famous outfitter was Adolphe Appia . In the opera in particular , directors sometimes come from the “equipment” like Robert Wilson .
At larger theaters there is often a head of equipment as the supervisor for the areas of set design, costumes, masks and props . He mediates between the theater and external outfitters and oversees production and furnishing.
