Little is known about the origins of Volkringhausen. Entries can be traced back to the year 1536. Entries could also be found under the names Volckerinckhuißen and Volkeringhausen .

On January 1, 1975, Volkringhausen was incorporated into the town of Balve.

There is a lively club life in Volkringhausen. The club with the largest number of members is the St. Hubertus Schützenbruderschaft. It was founded in July 1920 at the suggestion of members of the men's choir Cäcilia Volkringhausen. In September of the same year the first shooting festival took place in the community of Volkringhausen.

Other local clubs include the men's choir Cäcilia e. V., the carnival club Volkringhausen-Hönnetal e. V. and the table tennis club Volkringhausen.

The KFD organizes the Weiberfastnacht annually .

On January 27, 1985, the Balver Höhle Festival was founded in Volkringhausen .

Old Hönnebrücke and smithy

The old bridge over the Hönne and the smithy are under monument protection .

The May wreath and the Advent wreath are hung in Volkringhausen every year . The St. Michael Chapel, renovated in 2002, and the village park with maypole can also be visited.
