Garbeck is a district of the town of Balve in the Märkisches Kreis in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Frühlinghausen , Höveringhausen and Leveringhausen are hamlets that belong to Garbeck. On December 31, 2019, Garbeck had 2,719 inhabitants.

history

The first documented mention of Garbeck was in 1174 and showed that there were two knight families in Garbeck: that of Gaverbecke (Gottschalk von Gaverbecke 1341) and that of Ketteler. The knight family in Garbeck was only mentioned in documents until 1300. The Jungferngut goes back to the year 1401, today you can still find it in Garbeck.

In 1875 the first parish church was built. Her tower was on the other side than today and was dilapidated, so it was demolished in 1930. The new church was built in 1952.

There has been a primary school in Garbeck since around 1700 , which has moved three times. The current building is from the years 1929/30 (old building) and 1964/65 (new building).

Garbeck has belonged to the town of Balve since January 1, 1975, with the exception of fields east of Heppingsen .

Infrastructure

The district roads 11 and 12 lead through Garbeck. There is a bypass road, the district road 12 n. There is a connection to Balve (to the B 229 ), Langenholthausen (to the B 229 ), Küntrop (to the B 229 ), Neuenrade , Höveringhausen, Leveringhausen , on a local road to Ihmert , Hemer and Iserlohn , and also to Höveringhausen. It is planned to transform the center of the village into a traffic-calmed zone and to renature the Garbach.

Garbeck has its own train station, somewhat remote from the village in the northeast, and is thus connected to the Hönnetalbahn . A cycle path leads from Balve via Garbeck and Küntrop to Neuenrade near the Hönnetalbahn and the Hönne . Not far from the hamlet of Höveringhausen is the small Werdohl-Küntrop airfield with an approx. 600 m long grass runway . From here, private gliders and small single-engine machines up to 2000 kg take off.

Attractions

The parish church of the Catholic parish is dedicated to the Three Wise Men. In Garbeck you can find the Jungferngut from the 14th century.
