history
The first written mention of Mellen in 1233 was by the name "Theodericus de Mellene". The establishment of the farming settlement dates back 800 years ago.
For several years now, Mellen has been a parish vicarie for the Catholic parish of St. Blasius Balve. This parish vicarie has recently merged with the parish of Oberes Hönnetal under the name Balver Land and Oberes Hönnetal .
On January 1, 1975 Mellen was incorporated into the town of Balve.
societies
The club with the largest number of members is the Rot-Weiß Mellen sports club . There is also the St. Hubertus Mellen Rifle Society, the MGV Eintracht men's choir and the mixed choir Melodie Mellen.
The Catholic Women's Community in Germany (KFD) has its own theater group.
Martinsmarkt
The Martinsmarkt is very popular. Christmas decorations and woodwork can be admired on the stalls and cleared stables. Meller associations and groups take care of the physical well-being of the guests.
tourism
In 1991 Mellen was awarded gold in the competition Our village should become more beautiful, and in 2006 it was awarded silver. A village museum was founded by a private initiative. To the south of the village is the Bollenberg nature reserve .
