As part of the formerly independent municipality of Frönsberg in North Rhine-Westphalia, Heppingsen has been part of the city of Hemer since January 1st, 1975 . The settlement was first mentioned in 1485 as "Heppinckhysen".

Heppingsen is located in the Stephanopeler valley in the southeast of the city, between Heppingserbach in the north and Heidermühle in the south. Other neighboring settlements are Hultershagen , Ebberg and Heide .

For the community of Frönsberg, a cemetery was laid out in the Heppingsen district in the 1940s and a memorial was erected on it for those who fell in both world wars.

Before a new community center in in 2008 Ispei was inaugurated, which was firehouse Heppingsen by the fire squad Frönsberg the volunteer fire department used Hemer. The building, which is now privately owned, was built in 1928 and 1929. In the tower hung a cast steel bell weighing 320 kilograms , the origin of which is unknown. According to the inscription above the swastika, the bell was cast by the Bochum Association . On the flank is the year 1938 under the inscription "Faith - Love - Hope". When a funeral took place in the nearby cemetery, this bell was rung in the fire station.

After the fire station was sold, the bell was taken to the cemetery chapel and stored there for five years. In 2013, members of the Frönsberg local associations, supported by the Protestant parish and private sponsors, built a new wooden tower in the cemetery for the bell. The inauguration of the bell tower took place on July 21, 2013. The project cost 10,000 euros.

Not far from the fire station there was a precipitation measuring station of the German Weather Service Offenbach until the beginning of 2000 .
