Location of Stemmessiepen in North Rhine-Westphalia

As part of the formerly independent municipality of Ihmert, Stemmessiepen has been part of the town of Hemer in North Rhine-Westphalia since January 1, 1975 . The settlement is located west of Diekgraben in the southwest of the city, where it borders on Iserlohn's urban area.

The first mention of Stemmessiepen is recorded for the year 1825. In 1885 the settlement finally had eleven inhabitants.

In Stemmessiepen is the seepage source of the Ihmerter Bach , which flows into the Hemer Bach as the Westiger Bach near the old office building in Oberhemer . The name Stemmessiepen can also be traced back to the source swamp. Siepen denotes a swampy area, while stem indicates a bog .
