As part of the formerly independent municipality of Becke, Mesterscheid has been part of the town of Hemer since January 1st, 1975 . The settlement is located in the forest area between Stübecken in the west and Oese in the east. The village, which is referred to as Meestersche in the treasury of the county Mark in 1486 , is still dominated by agriculture today.

history

Mesterscheid homestead

The settlement was founded as a free farm presumably in the late Middle Ages in the forest areas north of Becke. Around 1650, the estate split into two separate farmsteads by inheritance. On January 4, 1763, the buildings were destroyed by a major fire, but were rebuilt in the following years. The new farmsteads were completed in 1768 and 1771.

The two Mesterscheider Johann Diedrich Ebbinghaus and Friedrich Ebbinghaus-Dodt were from 1852 to 1873, and from 1873 to 1882, respectively, community leaders of the Becke community. In 1878 one of the two courtyards burned to the ground again. After reconstruction, it was operated until 1924 and fell into disrepair in the following decades. The farm, built in 1771, is still in operation today, and residential buildings have also been built in Mesterscheid.

The Mesterscheider had a right of way for a footpath to the church in Niederhemer from the 18th century . With the construction of the Ebberg Church , the path was laid on the grounds of the Hemer house so as not to bother the Catholics in St. Peter and Paul .

In 2010 the oldest half-timbered house on the Mesterscheid was completely destroyed by a fire.
