House of Hemer
Haus Hemer is a manor house in Hemer . It goes back to an upper courtyard to supply the Grafschaft monastery from the 11th century. The current building mainly dates from the 17th century. Together with the surrounding building complex, Haus Hemer forms a district of the city.
history
The property was first mentioned next to the Hedhof and Brelen in 1072 as one of the upper courts of the archbishops of Cologne in the Hemer area. Anno II transferred the Oberhof Hademare to the newly founded Grafschaft monastery in a document. There is little information about the further development. It was not until 1452 that the estate reappeared in the sources. At that time it was a manor within the Duchy of Kleve-Mark , but still a fiefdom of Grafschaft. The owners were the von Höcklinghausen family. Later ownership passed to the von Böckenförde family called Schüngel . As a result, the property was inherited by other members of this family as owners, before Dietrich Ovelacker, then Drost von Altena and Iserlohn , bought it.
He had the complex redesigned into the form that is still essentially visible today by 1614. By inheritance the house fell to the Wachtendonk family, who owned it until 1664. It then fell to the von Brabeck family . This owned the property until 1812, when Carl Heinrich Löbbecke acquired it. The Löbbecke family sold the manor house and the associated park in 1957 to the Catholic parish of St. Peter and Paul, which used it as a children's home until 1980 . Today Haus Hemer serves the parish as a community center and kindergarten.
investment
Haus Hemer was originally built as a moated castle in the 17th century . Today the moats fell dry. A bridge reminds of the earlier situation. The mansion is two-story and rectangular. It has a square corner tower with a Welscher hood . The outbuildings date from the 18th century.
