August Kracht

August Kracht (born December 12, 1906 in Benninghofen near Dortmund , † June 21, 1987 in Bad Salzuflen ) was a German journalist , writer and local researcher .

Life

August Kracht was the son of a shoemaker. After attending elementary school and high school in Hörde , he studied German , archeology and art history at the universities of Bonn , Münster and Rostock . In 1933 he earned his doctorate in philosophy at the University of Rostock with a thesis on the Westphalian author Karl Wagenfeld . Kracht then worked as a journalist in Soest , Münster , Gelsenkirchen and Recklinghausen ; then he lived as a freelance writer in Essen . During the Third Reich he worked for the magazine " Heimat und Reich ", the central organ of the National Socialist Westphalian homeland and cultural policy. Kracht was based in Iserlohn from 1960 , later in Hemer - Deilinghofen and from 1985 in Bad Salzuflen.

In addition to his journalistic work, August Kracht wrote stories and poems as well as historical and art-historical works about his Westphalian homeland.
