As part of the formerly independent municipality of Frönsberg in North Rhine-Westphalia, Beckmerhagen has been part of the city of Hemer since January 1st, 1975 . The settlement lies between the Ihmert valley in the west and the Stephanopeler valley in the east.

Neighboring settlements are Rottmecke in the west, Wachmecke in the northwest, Frönsberg in the north, Heppingserbach in the east and Ebberg in the southwest. The landscape around Beckmerhagen is characterized by arable land (grain) and meadows.

The Wispa Festival for alternative culture took place on a meadow north of the village every year until 2014 .
