Brelen is a district of the city of Hemer . Until it was incorporated on January 1, 1975, the place belonged to the independent municipality of Becke . The village goes back to a medieval castle and is located in the northeast of the city at an altitude of 230  m above sea level. NN , near the border with Menden .

In a document from the Grafschaft monastery in 1072, Brelen Castle was first mentioned under the name Bredenol together with the Hemeraner Höfe Haus Hemer and Hedhof . The name Pretinholo has also come down to us from this period.
