Brelen Castle

The castle Brelen even castle Bredenol called, is an Outbound hilltop castle on the Benno head southeast of the Edelburg in the area of the present town Hemer in the Märkische Kreis. Remnants of the former castle were placed under protection on December 19, 1986 and entered as a ground monument in the list of monuments of the city of Hemer.

History and description

It is believed that the castle already existed in 1235, as a family named itself after the place Bredenol at that time . Between 1281 and 1338, the Bredenol family was under the Arnsberg ministerial .

According to the remains of the foundation, the former square stone keep had an internal dimension of 7.80 meters by 8 meters. The walls were 2.30 meters thick. Was installed Culmgestein with mortar. There was no breakthrough in the remains of the wall on the ground floor, so it is assumed that the tower had a high entrance .

The castle was not surrounded by ramparts and ditches , as the terrain sloped steeply to the southeast of the castle building.
