Sundwig is a district of Hemer in North Rhine-Westphalia . From 1841 to 1929, the independent municipality of Sundwig belonged to the Hemer / Iserlohn district . On August 1, 1929, Hemer, Sundwig, Westig , Landhausen and parts of the municipality of Calle became the new municipality of Hemer, which was granted town charter on January 30, 1936 .

With Andritz Sundwig and the Sundwiger Messingwerk , which both emerged from a company that has been based in 1698, the district is also an important industrial location for the region. From 1993 the business of the Sachsenring company was managed from Sundwig until it had to file for bankruptcy in 2002 .

The Felsenmeer , the Heinrichshöhle and the Sundwiger Mühle are special sights of the Sauerland .

Hemer's smallest house is in Sundwig. In the vernacular , it is also called "Löchte" or "Latüchte". These names are attributed to the fact that the house looked like a lantern due to its design, when the light from the kerosene lamps used to shine through the window. The house has a floor area of around 20 m² and only two rooms, which are connected by an internal staircase. In 2001 the half-timbered house was placed under monument protection. In 1911 the Sundwig fire station was built with a separate vehicle hall, riser tower and official residence in a neo-Gothic style. The vehicle hall was used by the volunteer fire brigade until 1984 and placed under protection as a technical monument in 1986 .

The tallest building in the city of Hemer, the parish church of St. Bonifatius , and the Felsenmeermuseum , the municipal museum of local history , are also located in Sundwig.
