As part of the formerly independent municipality of Deilinghofen, Bäingsen has been part of the town of Hemer since January 1, 1975 . The estate is located in the east of Hemer, on the border with the neighboring town of Balve .

In the Middle Ages, Gut Bäingsen was a knight's seat that was integrated into the defense system of Klusenstein Castle . In Bäingsen, for example, was the fortified church, which was almost completely destroyed in a fire in 1837. Only the chapel tower has survived to this day. In 1237 the estate with the then name Bedinchusen was sold to the Fröndenberg Monastery of the Cistercian Sisters . Parts of the property have been under monument protection since 1984 .

When Hemer became a garrison town in the mid-1930s, the Wehrmacht set up a shooting range for infantry and machine guns as well as grenade launchers near Bäingsen. In addition to the construction of five bunkers, an area several square kilometers was declared a restricted area.

In Bäingsen there is a dwindling stream that directs the water into the Hönnetal and thus contributes to the formation of caves there. In addition, around the estate there are sites of iron-containing slag that were smelted in six melting furnaces on site in earlier centuries.
