Heidermühle has been part of the town of Hemer in North Rhine-Westphalia since the municipal reorganization that came into force on January 1, 1975 . The settlement previously belonged to the independent Ihmert municipality , which it had taken over from Evingsen on January 1, 1969 .

Heidermühle is located in the south-east of the city on the banks of the Heppingser Bach , which rises a few kilometers further south as Gelmecke and flows into the Hönne as Oese . The settlement is located within a forest area and is accessible through the K 32. Neighboring settlements are the Hemeraner districts of Heppingsen in the north-west, Heide in the west, Stodt in the south-west and Hüingsen in the south. In the east, the city boundary to Balve separates Heidermühle with the village of Leveringhausen .

Heidermühle is known for trout breeding, for which several fish ponds have been created there. There is also a retirement home in Heidermühle.
