Heide has been part of the town of Hemer in North Rhine-Westphalia since the municipal reorganization that came into force on January 1, 1975 . The settlement previously belonged to the independent Ihmert municipality , which it had taken over from Evingsen on January 1, 1969 . A settlement in Heide is mentioned for the first time in 1628. A farm in this area belonged to the Frönsberg house at that time .

Heide is located in the southeast of the urban area in the Sauerland-Rothaargebirge nature park . The settlement is surrounded by the villages of Heppingsen in the north, Heidermühle in the east, Stodt and Hüingsen in the south, Schwarzpaul in the south-west and Hältershagen in the north-west.

Heath is dominated by agriculture and consists of a few courtyards. An oak in the northwest of the settlement is classified as a natural monument.

In 1959, while building a well in Heide, a 12.6 centimeter long and 422 gram spout ax was found, which was believed to have been made between 800 and 700 BC. Was made. In the Hemeraner area, this shape of the hatchet bears witness to a connection between Nordic customs and life in Hessian and southwestern Germany. Presumably, hunters lost the ax in the late Bronze Age (HA B 2/3) at today's living space in Heide.
