As part of the formerly independent municipality of Deilinghofen, Riemke has been part of the town of Hemer in North Rhine-Westphalia since January 1, 1975 . It is located in the east of Hemer, on the border with the neighboring towns of Menden and Balve .
The first written mention of Riemke goes back to the year 1281, when there was talk of the knight seat Rymbecke . The knight's seat was part of a defense system behind Klusenstein Castle , with which the Grafschaft Mark secured its border with Kurköln .
On January 21, 1818, Riemke became part of Mairie Hemer , from 1841 it belonged as a member of the Deilinghofen tax community to the administrative unit, henceforth called the mayor's office of Hemer . With the formation of the Office Hemer , the settlements of Riemke and Apricke were combined to form the municipality of Apricke . Later this first became part of the municipality Brockhausen , later part of Deilinghofen . Riemke has been a part of the town of Hemer since January 1st, 1975.
Today Riemke belongs to a landscape protection area. Full use by humans is still allowed there, but the landscape character must remain. To the north of Riemke is a former sewage pond, the largest standing water in the city of Hemer. The clarification pond has been designated as a nature reserve Riemke .
