Johannistal , partly also Johannisthal or Johannesthal , has been part of the formerly independent municipality of Ihmert since January 1, 1975, a district of the town of Hemer in North Rhine-Westphalia . The village is between Bredenbruch in the north and Ihmerterbach in the southwest along the L 683.
The village of Johannistal goes back to the establishment of a wire roll , which was converted into a paper mill in 1740 . In the first decades the name raven nest was common for this area in southern Bredenbruch. In 1779 the name Johannisthal was first mentioned. In 1885 the village had 53 inhabitants.
