As part of the formerly independent municipality of Frönsberg in North Rhine-Westphalia, Winterhof has been part of the city of Hemer since January 1st, 1975 .

Winterhof is located in the Stephanopel valley between the villages of Sundwigerbach and Stephanopel . The settlement is located on the Sundwiger Bach , which flows as an Oese through downtown Hemeran and flows into the Hönne in Menden . Winterhof is surrounded by the Ronsberg (434 meters above sea level) in the west and the Hochgiebel (482 meters above sea level) in the east.

A popular excursion destination in Winterhof was a restaurant of the same name, which was demolished in 2007.
