As part of the formerly independent community of Deilinghofen, Habichtseil has been part of the town of Hemer since January 1st, 1975 . The settlement is located in the south of Deilinghofen on the edge of the Balver Forest. Neighboring towns next to Deilinghofen are Langenbruch in the west and Nieringsen in the south.

Habichtseil is a pure housing estate without any economic facilities. The Ostenberg (501 meters above sea level) lies east of the village.
