Evingsen was an independent municipality until 1968 and part of the Hemer office in what was then Iserlohn district . As part of a territorial reform, Evingsen was assigned to the city of Altena in North Rhine-Westphalia , Germany in 1969 . Evingsen is located in the north of the Sauerland and belongs to the Märkischer Kreis .

history

Town center

Evingsen was first mentioned in a document in 1363 as Gut Ebinckhaus . In 1904 the community Evingsen, consisting of 1049 residents, consisted of the residential areas Evingsen, Giebel, Heide , Heidermühle , Heidersiepen, Hüingsen , auf der Hütte, Kohlberg, Löttringsen, Löttringserhahn, Nettenscheid, Rüssenberg, Schwarzpaul , Springen, Stodt and Tüssenberg and was the southernmost community in office Hemer . The community size was 697 ha . In the following years the population increased to 1133 in 1907 and to 1158 in 1910.

On January 1, 1969, Evingsen left the office of Hemer due to the state law of December 17, 1968 and became a district of the city of Altena with the exception of the residential areas Heide, Heidermühle, Hüingsen, Schwarzpaul and Stodt, which came to Ihmert .

Mayor

In 2007 Dirk Mühle took over the position of mayor from his predecessor Margot Köhn. Both belong to the CDU. Thomas Schmitz of the SPD has held the office of mayor since 2014.

The coat of arms of the municipality of Evingsen is split from black to gold and, like the coats of arms of all municipalities of the Hemer office, has three (2: 1) wolf fishing rods on the right. Next to it is an awl in mixed up colors. This stood as a symbol for the local industry, which for many years was determined by the production of shoemaker's articles, especially awls.

The coat of arms was awarded on June 14, 1939 and expired on December 31, 1968 as part of the reorganization of the area.

The former wire roll "Am Hurk" is located below the source of the Springer Bach . Around 1804 it was one of twelve similar rolls of wire in the Springer Valley. Today it is a technical monument and can be viewed from the outside at any time.

Sports

There are several sports clubs in Evingsen, such as TS Evingsen and FC Altena 69.

Churches and parishes

The Protestant church was built in the town center in 1887. The Catholic Church of St. Theresia (Am Sundern) belonged to the Archdiocese of Paderborn until 2007, now to the Diocese of Essen.

Club life

The village of Evingsen has a rich community life. In addition to the rifle and gymnastics club, the third largest club, a local history club, has existed since 1995, which has set itself the task of researching the past of the village, shaping the present and securing the future. There is also a Blue Cross Association.

traffic

Landstrasse 683 runs through Evingsen. A bus connection to the center of Altena and the neighboring town of Hemer is provided by Märkische Verkehrsgesellschaft with bus line 33, to Dahle with line 35. The next train connection is in Altena.
