geography

The location Mühlenrahmede is 2 km south of Altena, in the valley floor of the Rahmedetal and its three side valleys. The Hemecke is the longest side valley with the stream of the same name. It is around 2.5 kilometers long and has its source near the hilltop village of Rosmart . Further south, the Mühlenbachtal flows into the Rahmede with the stream of the same name, which rises near Großendrescheid . The lower part of the valley is built on, while the upper part, which rises steeply after Großendrescheid, is largely natural. The difference in altitude between Großendrescheid and the Rahmedetal is more than 200 meters. Another, right-hand tributary to the Rahmede, the Rotenschlade , is only populated in the lower part, while the upper part, which also rises sharply towards Rosmart, is natural.

history

The name of the place Mühlenrahmede (formerly Mollenrahmede) is derived from the numerous mills that were located on the Rahmede. The oldest mill, a grain mill , was on the site of the old Forkert factory. It can be traced back to 1350 on the associated mill estate. From the year 1413 it is known that 22 farms with a total of 52 houses were forced to use the mill. They had their corn to the Mark Counts deliver under standing mill can grind and their usual tax payable. In 1350 Wychert in der Rahmede and his wife Mette, whose parents had already worked here, were tenants of this mill. The last miller in this family was Rotger in the Rahmede. He was followed by Johann Hohage. In the years 1450 to 1456, Count Gerhard von der Mark zu Hamm pledged the farm and mill to Wilhelm von Nesselrode . In 1589 the goods were in the possession of Hermann von Hatzfeld . Around 1650, a quarter of the mill estate was already in the possession of Johann Grothe; other parts that were still sovereign property were leased to several families at that time. Later the pawnbroker built a forge on the estate , which was replaced by two Osemund hammer mills after 1700 , which in 1733 were called "Royal Hammers in the Frame". Around 1750 Diedrich Hermann Hohage from Ardey leased the mill for 100 thalers. In 1838, the tenant Diedrich Föhrs reached an agreement with the state domain treasury and acquired the mill as an inheritance. In addition to the mill, other goods were mentioned in documents as early as the 16th century: the Grothen-Gut and Maywegs Gut, the former as early as 1533, Mayweg's Gut 100 years later. It was leased by the Elbrocke Office, its tenants Dirich Maywegh and son. In the course of the centuries the goods, the smiths and hammers increased, combined with an increase in population, which led to the formation of a closed town.
