Andreas Dresen
Andreas Dresen (born August 16, 1963 in Gera ) is a German film director . Since November 2012 he has also been one of nine judges of the constitutional court of Brandenburg for ten years .
life and work
Andreas Dresen is the son of the theater director Adolf Dresen and the actress Barbara Bachmann . After his parents separated, the theater director Christoph Schroth became his foster father.
From 1979 to 1982 he attended the Extended Goethe High School in Schwerin . There he made his first amateur films and directed school plays. After his military service in the NVA , he worked as a sound engineer at the Schwerin Theater in 1984/85 . In 1985 and 1986 he completed a traineeship in the DEFA studio for feature films and was assistant director to Günter Reisch . This was followed from 1986 to 1991 by studying directing at the University of Film and Television in Potsdam- Babelsberg , from which he graduated with a diploma. His student film As Fast as It Goes to Istanbul (1990) was also shown at the Berlinale and received the Prix Europa . With his first feature film Stilles Land (1991/92), Dresen ironically reflected the turmoil of the turnaround in a small town theater. Dresen has been working as a freelance writer and director since 1992. After initially working for television, since his second feature film, Nachtgestalten (1999), he has mainly made feature films. Since Nachtgestalten, Dresen has often relied on improvisation and handheld cameras, which gives his films a very realistic and semi-documentary character.
From 1990 on, he worked primarily with cameraman Andreas Höfer , with whom he had studied together in Babelsberg, and since 2000 with Michael Hammon . Dresen worked with Wolfgang Kohlhaase as a screenwriter for three of his films : Summer in front of the balcony (2005), Whiskey with Vodka (2009) and As we träumten (2015). Kohlhaase appreciates Dresen's “friendly”, “almost affectionate” way of looking at and dealing with the actors and their characters. Dresen then confirmed that he and Kohlhaase share the same “view of the world and people”.
Since 1996 Dresen has also been working for the stage, for example at the Cottbus State Theater (Goethe's Urfaust ), the Leipzig Theater and the German Theater in Berlin. In 2006 he staged Mozart's Don Giovanni at the Basel Opera and Ödön von Horváth's play Kasimir and Karoline with the music of the 17 hippies at the Deutsches Theater Berlin .
In 2013 he was appointed to the competition jury of the 63rd Berlin International Film Festival . In 2015, Dresen was represented in the competition of the Berlinale for the third time with his film As Wir Träumten after 1999 ( Nachtgestalten ) and 2002 ( Half Staircase ). 2016 Dresen had a guest appearance on the WDR telecast free room! with Christine Westermann and Götz Alsmann . The protagonist of this episode is Axel Prahl .
In 2018, Dresen's feature film Gundermann was released and won a total of six Lolas at the German Film Prize 2019 , including the prize for the best film .
Engagements and memberships
In 2003, Andreas Dresen was one of the founding members of the German Film Academy . He is also a member of the European Film Academy and the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of the Arts . In addition, Dresen was Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the DEFA Foundation from 2013 to 2019 .
In October 2012 he was elected as a layman constitutional judge in the state of Brandenburg at the suggestion of the Die Linke parliamentary group . In November 2012, he approved the election.
Since 2016, Andreas Dresen has been supporting the “Alliance for Brandenburg”, an initiative of the state of Brandenburg that aims to ensure that refugees are successfully integrated.
Since the summer semester of 2018, he has held the newly established professorship for film acting at the Rostock University of Music and Drama .
