William Dieterle Film Award
The William Dieterle Film Prize is awarded every three years by the city of Ludwigshafen am Rhein for “outstanding cinematic achievements in dealing with cultural and social issues” to filmmakers in German-speaking countries. In addition to the main prize, a special prize "to promote understanding between different cultural and ethnic groups" is also announced.
The prizes are awarded “in recognition of the merits” of the director William Dieterle , whose city of birth is Ludwigshafen am Rhein, by an advisory board on the recommendation of a jury of three film experts. The film award was founded in 1993 on the occasion of Dieterle's hundredth birthday.
