The 69th presentation of the German Film Prize (Lola) took place on May 3, 2019 in the Palais am Funkturm in Berlin . At 2.955 million euros, the award is the most highly endowed cultural award in Germany and is awarded by the German Film Academy in up to 18 categories.

The preselection for the documentary area with 13 films was announced on December 11, 2018, the preselection for the feature film area with 23 films and six names for individual performances, as well as the preselection for six children's films, took place on January 7, 2019.

The nominations were announced on March 20, 2019 at a press conference from the Deutsche Kinemathek by Minister of State for Culture Monika Grütters , the President of the German Film Academy Ulrich Matthes and its chairman Benjamin Herrmann . The film Gundermann was nominated in ten categories, Styx in six, The Golden Glove and The Boy Must Get Fresh Air in five categories each.

The director, author and actress Margarethe von Trotta was awarded the honorary award for outstanding services to German film in advance . Director  Caroline Link  received the Lola for The Boy Must Go to Fresh Air for the “most popular German film of the year”. Producer Christian Becker was honored with the Bernd Eichinger Prize for his outstanding work as a producer .

The gala was broadcast with a time delay by the TV station ZDF on May 3, 2019 from 10:55 p.m. Actress and presenter Désirée Nosbusch and comedian and actor Tedros Teclebrhan hosted the event. The screenwriter Elena von Saucken and the film director Florian Cossen were responsible for the artistic direction .
