Wolfgang Fischer (* 1970 in Amstetten ) is an Austrian screenwriter and film director .

Life

Wolfgang Fischer studied psychology and painting at the University of Vienna from 1990 to 1995 and film and video at the Düsseldorf Art Academy under Nan Hoover from 1994 to 1996 . He then studied film and television at the Art Academy for Media in Cologne from 1996 to 2001 .

In 2002 he attended a course in acting with Mark Travis in Poland and in 2004 a workshop on story development for genre reproductions with Stephen Cleary and Simon van der Borgh in Rome .

In 2003 he was a jury member at the International Film Festival in Grimstad Norway.

In 2005 he received a scholarship to visit the script workshop in Munich , where he developed the book for his debut film “ Was Du nicht Siehst ” (2009).

Since 1999 he has been a director at Westdeutscher Rundfunk (WDR).

Awards

2018: Heiner Carow Prize from the DEFA Foundation for Styx as part of the Berlin International Film Festival
2018: German Director Award Metropolis in the category Best Director Cinema for Styx
2019: Austrian Film Award in the categories Best Screenplay (together with Ika Künzel ) and Best Director
