Winner of the Austrian Film Prize 2019

The presentation of the Austrian Film Awards 2019 by the Academy of Austrian Films took place on January 30, 2019 in the Vienna City Hall. The nominations were announced on December 6, 2018. Most of them, in a total of eight categories, went to Murer - Anatomie einer Prozess by Christian Frosch , followed by Angelo by Markus Schleinzer with seven and L'Animale by Katharina Mückstein with six nominations.

On January 24th, 2019, the evening of the nominees took place in the knight's hall of Burg Perchtoldsdorf . The award ceremony was moderated by Caroline Peters and Nicholas Ofczarek , directed by Michael Sturminger . The guest speech (“Solidarity with the weak - the language of hate corrupts society”) was written by Martin Pollack , and due to his illness it was read out by Peter Simonischek . Music came from Mnozil Brass .

Films submitted

Films could be registered for the selection process from July 3 to August 31, 2018, the criteria for participation for feature films and documentaries were a theatrical release in the period October 2017 to November 2018 and evidence of significant Austrian cultural influences. Short films qualified on the basis of awards and festival successes in the past year. From the submissions, the full members of the Academy of Austrian Films select the nominations for films and individual performances in 16 award categories; the nominations were announced on December 6, 2018. A total of 42 Austrian feature films, including 21 feature films and 21 documentaries, as well as 14 short films were submitted.
