Austrian Film Award : Best Feature Film

Winner and nominee in the Best Feature Film category since the Austrian Film Prize was first presented in 2011.

In order to qualify for the selection process for the film award, the film must have significant Austrian cultural characteristics. To do this, the film must meet two of the following criteria:

  • the original version of the film is German
  • the director has Austrian citizenship or is domiciled in Austria
  • the lead producer has Austrian citizenship or is domiciled in Austria

The award winner is determined in a two-stage process. First of all, all full members of the professional groups ("Sections") for production, direction and screenwriting nominate their favorite films in a secret written vote. Nominations are given to up to three films - those productions that can win the most votes are considered nominated. The winner is determined by a second ballot in which all voting members of the Academy of Austrian Films take part. The fictional film with the highest number of votes is the winner of the Austrian Film Prize. The award is given to the personal producers of the film.
